Massage Therapy & The Benefits For Your Body

A common misconception about massage is that it is only part of a spa day intended to pamper yourself. While this may be true for some people, it can also be a great tool for stress reduction and pain relief.

In a recent study published by the Mayo Clinic in March of 2022, researchers have found that massage therapy can help reduce signs of certain conditions.

  • Anxiety

  • Depression

  • Digestive disorders

  • Fibromyalgia

  • Headaches

  • Insomnia

  • Nerve pain

  • Postoperative care*

  • Scar tissue

  • Soft tissue strains and injuries

  • Sports injuries

  • Temporomandibular (TMJ) disorders

For some, massage therapy can play an important role in helping an individual return to normal daily activities. While massage therapy can help with the following, it is not a cure all. Speak with your Licensed Massage Therapist and your Doctor about a treatment plan tailored to your needs.

  • Improved circulation

  • Decreased muscle stiffness

  • Decreased joint inflammation

  • Better quality of sleep

  • Quicker recovery between workouts

  • Improved flexibility

  • Less pain and soreness

  • Strengthened immune response

What to expect after your massage.

  • It is common to feel relaxed, tired, and even sore after your massage. Your muscles are being worked by the massage therapist during your service and it may even feel like you completed a workout. Depending on your level of activity in your daily life, massages can sometimes work muscle groups that are typically underused in your day to day life.

  • There is a common misconception that massages have to hurt to help. This is simply not true. Massages do not need to be painful or hurt to be helpful. Occasionally you may have a sensitive spot or a knot in the muscle that may be uncomfortable while your massage therapist works it out. But if it becomes painful, speak up .Your massage therapist is there for YOU.

  • Be sure to drink plenty of water before and after your service. Massages can help release toxins in the body and water is a great way to help the body process and discard them. Water can also help speed up recovery time and ease with muscle soreness.
